Typically, the NFC this season wins, with aggressive recruitment and risky moves. This year, however, the division is winning the AFC East. Three of the top five teams are for low season the AFC East: Miami Dolphins, New England Patriots and New York Jets. In the NFC East, the Washington Redskins made the best move this offseason individual, to acquire via the quarterback Donovan McNabb exchange, but at the same time cut to 11 veterans to improve their future salary cap. The Pittsburgh Steelers won deep with Antwaan Randle El, Bryant McFadden, Larry Foote and Byron Leftwich, but off-field issues forced them to swap to Santonio Holmes, and will be without quarterback Ben Roethlisberger for four or six games. So what are the five teams that had the best season in 2010? 1. NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS The rehires are not attractive for fans, but the Patriots had 10 potential unrestricted free agents before free agency began. The owner Robert Kraft has invested 84.414 million dollars to retain the nose tackle Vince Wilfork, guard Stephen Neal, linebacker Tully Banta-Cain, cornerback Leigh Bodden and running back Kevin Faulk. The only loss - tight end Benjamin Watson and defensive end Jarvis Green - were replaced. Bill Belichick may not have hit home runs in the draft, but loaded the bases. The Patriots needed a cornerback, and Devin McCourty recruited in the first round. Jermaine Cunningham and Brandon Spikes give New England the needy youth at linebacker. Rob Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez fill the void left by the departure of Watson in the position of tight end. The Patriots were a dozen draft picks, and next year will have two first-round and two second. They added tonnage to their defensive line with Gerard Warren and Damione Lewis, and added tight end Alge Crumpler and wide receiver Torry Holt. 2. MIAMI DOLPHINS It is true that the Dolphins were in their ability to pressure the passer, losing to Joey Porter and Jason Taylor, but incorporated two impact players in wide receiver Brandon Marshall and inside linebacker Karlos Dansby. Dansby, considered the highest award of free agency this year, offset the departure of linebacker. The exchange by Marshall could be key to the season ahead. The Dolphins did not have a big wide receiver, capable of adding yards after the catch. Marshall gives a large target quarterback Chad Henne. He has had three seasons of 100 receptions and is much better than Ted Ginn Jr., who had speed but did not fit the long-term plans of Bill Parcells. The guard Richie Incognito could bring attitude to the offensive line. The Dolphins lost 16 of its 44 sacks last season to elements of Taylor and Porter, but they think that Cameron Wake, who shined in the CFL as a pass rusher, can help. The draft gave Miami a quality defensive end Jared Odrick, a good linebacker in Koa Misi and guard John Jerry oversize. 3. NEW YORK JETS The teams that finished in the last eight alive in the playoffs, could not do much in free agency, by the restrictions of uncapped year. The Jets had to wait to lose a free agent to sign a free agent. Give credit to Mike Tannenbaum. He was aggressive, despite the restrictions. He did more with less. The Jets are better able coverage with cornerback Antonio Cromartie and recruit Kyle Wilson first round of what they had with veterans Lito Sheppard and Donald Strickland, who were no longer at the club. Brodney Pool signed for a year to help at safety. Rex Ryan Taylor convinced that it could accumulate 15 sacks as a linebacker, and if he succeeds, will be five more than Ryan received from the other supporters of the Jets last year combined. Holmes having obtained a fifth-round help, even if you only play 12 games. The only questionable move was to replace New York runners Thomas Jones and Leon Washington to LaDainian Tomlinson, and the fourth round recruit Joe McKnight. Another question is how ready the second-round choice, Vladimir Ducasse, to replace a Pro Bowl guard Alan Faneca. 4. DETROIT LIONS General manager Martin Mayhew has chosen volume, to arrange a less bulky templates League. His biggest improvement was on the defensive line, incorporating the Ndamukong Suh and defensive tackles Corey Williams and defensive end Kyle Vanden Bosch. The enhanced defensive line will help the worst secondary in the league, that is renewed. The most recent additions were the cornerbacks Amari Spievey and Chris Houston. Wide receiver Nate Burleson and tight end Tony Scheffler Matthew Stafford to help stretch the field. Rob Sims will solve instability in the left guard position. Adding more excitement is generated by the corridor Yahweh Best, adding the possibility of big plays to a backfield that last year had only five carries for 20 yards or more. 5. Seattle Seahawks Pete Carroll arrived at USC and found many holes to fill in Seattle. Except for the defensive end, Carroll filled almost everyone. It was the big winner of the draft, incorporating nine rookies and three veterans in exchange. Maybe you get four starters in the draft: left tackle Russell Okung, Earl Thomas's deep, wide receiver Golden Tate and defensive end EJ Wilson. And there might be two good surprises in the deep Kam Chancellor, a man of 230 pounds that could help against the run, and tight end Anthony McCoy, a third-round talent who fell to sixth for a positive marijuana. During the draft, Carroll managed their backfield problems with the acquisition via exchange of Washington and LenDale White. Okung will play alongside veteran Ben Hamilton in a reassembly left side of the offensive line. Defensive end Chris Clemons could add pressure against the pin rival. Charlie Whitehurst came from San Diego as a quarterback who could someday be the successor to Matt Hasselbeck. |
